HANDCRAFTED

UNIQUE WORKS OF ART

If you own one of our signature rugs for the home, you'll know it is a one-of-a-kind piece. Because it is handcrafted by Indian artisans and not as a result of mass production. With a factory of our own, Lorena designs and produces everything that crosses her imagination. That is how iconic kids' rugs with original shapes such as a cookie, a Monstera leaf, or a cloud came into being. But also true works of art such as the Sheep of the World collection, with 20% top-quality New Zealand wool. Always advocating for fairtrade practices, our factory in India employs more than 170 artisans.

DOWN TO THE LAST DETAIL

Each one of our rugs is full of details. We often combine different textures creating a play of sensations and reliefs that are perceived not only to the touch but also to the eye, achieving spectacular decorative results. Braids, fringes, tassels, embroidery, pompoms, or children's play rug accessories are carefully hand-sewn by craftswomen. The result is an exclusive piece made with natural fibers and an original design that distinguishes the decoration of any space.

CRAFTMANSHIP AND NATURAL MATERIALS— THE PERFECT PAIRING

Wool and cotton. These are the raw materials that guarantee the durability and comfort of each one of our pieces. Both fibers have innumerable advantages. Our wool rugs are flexible, hypoallergenic, fire-resistant, and dirt repellent. They are also acoustic insulators and moisture regulators. Would you prefer something cooler and more practical? The cotton ones are lightweight and can be easily folded and put in the washing machine. Perfect for kids’ rooms or a household with pets, they are the most practical of our collections. Sustainable and cozy, whether you choose wool or cotton, both are WASHABLE.

SUSTAINABLE

To dye the cotton of our rugs, we recycle water continuously. This way, we avoid unnecessary costs and contribute a little more to preserving our environment.

+20 YEARS CARING FOR THE PLANET

We believe that we can all make a difference if we choose natural, sustainable, handmade products with quality such that they last almost a lifetime. We care for low environmental impact. We care about our planet, and we care about offering truly sustainable coziness.

RUGCYCLED®—THE WORLD'S FIRST WASHABLE UPCYCLED RUG

Rugs are an essential piece in decoration—they provide coziness, protection, and definition to a space. At Lorena Canals, we believe in being able to offer much more than a beautiful, cozy, and quality rug. We believe in a sustainable and eco-friendly rug. That is why we have created our RugCycled® product line, the first to give a second life to the cotton leftovers from our productions. Because when we use waste as raw material, we not only reduce the impact on natural resources, but we also save on energy and water. NO to waste. YES to saving!

IF YOU BUY A LORENA CANALS, YOU HELP SAVE 90% ON WATER

You save on energy and 90% on water. Our commitment to the planet and people makes us seek continuous improvements in our manufacturing processes to achieve maximum sustainability.

OUR COLORS HELP PRESERVE THE PLANET

Our rugs have color—lots of colors! But our dyes have no comparison with those used in the rest of the market—they are non-toxic, natural powder dyes that go diluted in hot water. Once the dye is ready, the cotton fibers are rolled on a stick and repeatedly dipped in the tinted waters until acquiring the desired shade. Afterward, they get dried in the sun and, once dry, they get taken to the factory to make the cotton bobbins. But we are not satisfied with just using natural dyes. We go even further and seek new ways to be sustainable. For example, in our Sheep of the World collection, we have chosen to avoid using dyes and show the natural colors of wool. Similarly, many of our cotton rugs feature the natural shade of their fibers.

WE MANUFACTURE—WE CONTROL

With our own factory in India, sustainability has been in our hands since 1998. It explains how we control the entire manufacturing process from start to finish—from cotton picking to creating our washable rugs and decor accessories. Our factories do not pollute when producing our products. Not only do we save 90% on water in the making by continuously recycling it, but we do not use any synthetic fibers—our products are all made from natural fibers.

TRANSPORT WITH A FUTURE

Our products travel by sea from India in containers, thus reducing our carbon footprint. The cargo ship is our mode of transportation. In addition, the bags you receive at home with our rugs are made of plastic that is 100% recycled and 100% recyclable. A double sealing system makes its size adaptable to the size of the product, differentiating it from the traditional closing system. The result? No tape, smaller shipping volume, less fuel used, and as a consequence of this—less carbon footprint!

INNOVATIVE

REVOLUTIONIZING THE MARKET SINCE 1998

One of the main objectives of our company is to innovate every day, in all our areas. That is why we invest in researching new techniques, new designs, new artisanal processes, or new ways of manufacturing in a sustainable way. Thus, we shake the industry not only with our washable or recycled rugs.

INTERACTIVE RUGS

We also innovate with reversible rugs, or rugs for children with interactive games that encourage learning, or all-in-one rugs with a sewn-on pillow. Rugs with incredible textures achieved thanks to our factory in India and our creative teams—always focused on innovating, innovating, and innovating. And we continue to research to create more original, more sustainable, and more supportive rugs and accessories.

THE WORLD’S FIRST WASHABLE RUG

One of our first milestones was the WASHABLE RUG concept. How did it come about?

“When I wanted to look for a rug on the market that I didn’t have to take to the dry cleaners, I realized they didn’t exist. So I decided to make my own washable rug. From there on, a thousand designs and shapes emerged in washable, natural quality cotton.” Lorena Canals

THE WOOLABLE® REVOLUTION

After the success of our washable cotton rugs, we wanted to go a step further and make our wool rugs washable too. Stylish, with incredible textures and innovative designs, our patent-registered WOOLABLE® range has shaken up the rug industry and made us first in the World to offer washable wool rugs.

RUGCYCLED®—THE GREENEST RUG

We believe in giving a second life to the scraps and leftovers from our rugs' manufacturing to create new pieces. Stylish and sustainable, they help us take care of the planet.

LONG-LASTING - Long Live The Rug

QUALITY, QUALITY, QUALITY

That is the secret of the high durability of our rugs. Natural fibers—WOOL or COTTON—and artisan techniques ensure a longer lifespan than most rugs on the market have. The quality of these natural raw materials makes them resistant and keeps them flawless, wash after wash. If you follow our care recommendations, our rugs will last for years and years. And, because they have such a long lifespan, you can play with their versatility and switch them from one room to another for a decor refresh.

WE’RE ALL FOR SLOW DECOR

We embrace the SLOW movement in the world of decoration. We are committed to manufacturing products with high-quality natural fibers to ensure maximum durability and at the same time promote conscious consumerism. A piece made with natural fibers can last a lifetime, while one made with synthetic fibers needs renewing every three years.

SOLIDARY - Lorena for The People

SOLIDARY RUGS

The one thing about our rugs is that they stand for solidarity. Touched by seeing children whose future gets imposed by their family's economic circumstances, designer Lorena Canals decided to offer her social support granting them access to education. And so the Sakûla Project came to be, a nursery in the north of India so that children on the street can receive food and education.

A NURSERY THAT TAKES IN +120 CHILDREN

There are currently 120 children attending the school and counting. Their teachers are in direct contact with us to suggest continuous improvements—from new textbooks to new backpacks or renovations to the school.
